Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the KIS Summer Band program has been cancelled. We apologize for this inconvenience, but will take the time during the summer to disinfect instruments for student use in the fall and to plan for the 2020-2021 school year.
We all know that the end of this school year did not go as planned. But what does, really? When we forgot the suspended cymbal mallets at the Windward Mall Concert, we sent Mr. Choy running back to the bandroom to get it. When traditional school and basically everything about our normal lives were cancelled, we made a virtual music video and learned to do assignments online. Life is about the hurdles we need to jump through, but it's also about how we persevere despite it. Resilience is measured by our ability to thrive when times are tough. Thank you to the students who participated in the online activities. I know it's hard to find motivation these days, but when you complete quality work, it gives me reason to work even harder for you.
"Over the Rainbow"
Lyrics by E. Y. Harburg

Band Boosters Membership
Parents of band students are encouraged to join the KIS Band Boosters to help with fundraisers and student events. All monies from fundraisers are used to subsidize the cost of instrument repair, instrument purchases, student activities, transportation for concerts, consumable student supplies, and trips. Booster meetings are held once a month to plan for these activities.
Rehearsals will start in the third week of school and take place after school. Two unexcused absences or tardies from rehearsal will result in dismissal from upcoming performances. If your child is unable to attend a rehearsal, please send a written note or an e-mail at least 24 hours in advance requesting an excused absence.
We are starting up rehearsals in November through December so the two beginning band classes can prepare to perform together in their upcoming concert. Two unexcused absences or tardies from rehearsal will result in dismissal from upcoming performances. If your child is unable to attend a rehearsal, please send a written note or an e-mail at least 24 hours in advance requesting an excused absence.
